Origin of Deadeye Dicks.

Well I guess it all really started when my parents purchased me my first firearm from Hamills Rotorua  when I was around 7 years old.
That’s when my love for hunting and shooting started and it has never diminished.
It was around 13 years ago I was reloading a lot of ammunition for friends and some customers and I had a license to manufacture ammunition. It soon become apparent that in the Levin area there was the need for a hunting and shooting supplies shop. Especially with the closure of Levin sports. I started to do a little retail from a tiny building on my property in the country at 215 Heatherlea East road and in no time it was apparent that I needed to expand so I built a larger showroom with an office and a reloading room and some storage. This become known as Deadeye Dicks Shooting Supplies and in the years to come become a reasonably busy business with several full time staff. We based ourselves on selling more top end products and also specialized in reloading supplies. We also picked up some very good agencies along the way and now have a large range of top end products that we import and distribute throughout New Zealand.
We build custom rifles and do load developments among other services. It helped a great deal when I gained a reputation as a reasonable shot winning the New Zealand championships’ on 3 occasions and 2 second placing in a five year period. I was also selected to go to the world champs in 2005 where I secured a bronze medal and a gold for the 1000 metres.  People would bring me their rifles from far and wide to have me work on them and get them tuned up and shooting well.

Hamills Palmerston North

Just over a year ago I was offered the opportunity of purchasing Moose’s sports in Cuba Street in Palmerston North. We were actually looking for a new challenge and after some though we decided this is what we wanted to do.  We decided not to run with another Deadeye Dicks store and felt that a change of name to reflect the change in ownership and a large change in what the store was about. We got rid of all the general sports and have gone with the fishing and hunting and associated products. This is in line with the Hamills group of stores and it seemed appropriate that I should name our new store after the store where it all began for me with my first air rifle from Hamills Rotorua.  Hamills Palmerston North was kicked off on the 1st of March last year.  Was a little scary moving away completely from the general sports however I feel we never had the room if we were to do the fishing and shooting sports properly.
Hamills Palmerston North has already made its mark in the area and has a good stock of good products at very competitive prices.

Between our two stores we have by far the biggest selection of firearms in the Manawatu and we have expert staff who give great advice to customers.
We are quality focused not margin focused and prefer our customers to purchase reliable products that they will be happy with long term.  My motto is there is no satisfaction selling inferior products.
Check us out and see for yourself.
I believe that in all the time I have been in business I have never had a better team of staff than the people I have working between Deadeye Dicks and Hamills Palmerston North. The experience and knowledge of my staff  would rival any store in New Zealand. When others say their staff are out there doing it makes me smile as all my staff without exception are out there doing it big time.
